Oliver - December '17
"I'm an Alien Robot", were the first words we heard from, then six-year-old, Oliver when he joined the DRC Seedlings in September of 2016. Upon that declaration the following six months were spent building various versions of robots all to Oliver's specs. His amazing imagination sends the staff, volunteers, and fellow DRC students on incredible, never ending daily adventures. We all understand that Oliver is the mastermind behind the ideas and we are all the integral pieces playing supporting roles to his genius. The actual construction of most of his creations, whether it be a prop such as a Pirate ship that must be built to act out a scene, or, costume for his latest production, are designated to others with specific if somewhat confusing instructions. The now seven-year-old Oliver has discovered that any of his ideas can be brought to physical reality with the help and cooperation of the entire group. He has also discovered that if he is too bossy or demanding no one will stick around to do his bidding.

Oliver is patient, kind, and has absolutely brilliant comedic timing. At the same time, he is determined to never let a great idea go to waste. His endless curiosity about computers and video game designing allow him to seek out and explore the opportunities that will help him learn the basics while feeding his excitement around those specific interests. He also shows great patience with other areas that do not fully fit his agenda.
Oliver's smiles, laughter, hugs, and genuine concern for others around him are all traits that are contagiously spread throughout the whole center. His warm and generous vibe are felt by all who enter.
A few interesting facts about Oliver: He likes to eat oranges by cutting them in half and gnawing out the pulp with his bottom teeth. He usually has his clothing on backward and/or inside out and in Oliver's world, socks and shoes are completely optional, no matter the weather. He likes to answer questions during presentations (before they are completely formulated), therefore, usually coming up far short of the expected response, but always achieves a laugh or two. He will try almost any type of food, when it is offered and generally "grazes" all day long. Oliver loves water and is often the first one wet during any of our Tuesday outdoor excursions.
As you can probably imagine, not one moment is ever close to being dull or uneventful when Oliver is around. He is unabashedly his own person and we celebrate his perfectly unique awesomeness every day!
